Below described how it works:

1. Adaptive Speed Control: ACC allows you to set a preferred speed, but it automatically adjusts that speed based on the traffic ahead. If a slower vehicle is detected, the system reduces speed to maintain a safe following distance.

2. Distance Control: You can set your desired following distance, usually ranging from closer to farther, which the system maintains by either slowing down or speeding up as necessary.

3. Stop & Go Functionality: In many BMW models, ACC includes a stop-and-go feature, which can handle start-stop traffic. The car will automatically come to a complete stop if traffic stops, and it can start moving again when traffic resumes.

4. Smooth Braking and Acceleration: ACC smoothly manages acceleration and braking to minimize abrupt movements, which improves passenger comfort.

5. Driver Override: You can take over control at any time by braking, accelerating, or turning off the system manually.

BMW Active Cruise Control is especially helpful on long highway drives, reducing fatigue and allowing for a more relaxing driving experience. For safety, drivers still need to remain alert and ready to take control if necessary.
